It used to be a real dream to me. Becoming "pro" at games. Firstly, Counterstrike, and when I moved on to Warcraft 3, I had high hopes of leaving a mark on the pro-scene there. Unfortunately, it never happened, and my dreams of becoming pro faded. I moved on with my life, and became an occasional gamer.
Every now and again, I launch my Steam and start a game of Counterstrike Source. I've been doing this for a month, playing every 2-3 days for about an hour. It reminds me of the old times, back in the Uithof CS 24/7 days. Read that name and tell me it doesn't do you anything without blinking your eyes. Yeah, I thought so.
Anyway, I've been really amused with it, found a pretty fun Benelux server and fragged a lot. Yesterday, I found myself on a roll. I was on the losing team. There were a few pretty good CT's on the other team and my team was pretty bad. I had the highest score, being positive with 8-7, while my mates had 0-6's, 1-5's, etc. No one really stood out. The next round, my whole team was dead again, and I found myself at bomb site A in Dust2. The bomb was dropped by one of my mates in the hallway near site B. At my best, I moved my ass over there, taking A Short, and then going in the hallways, up, up, up the stairses, and into Shelob's lair. Uh. CT's lair. Three of them were camping near the bomb, that was in the middle of the hallway. One of them was with an AWP, behind the crates at the bomb site, another sat in the corner in the hallway, and the third stood just outside the hallway with an M4A1. I had a Flashbang left and threw it in the room once I came from the stairs. The guy in the corner was flashed and taken out. He had 17-3 at that point. I silently went over to the bomb, but waited with picking it up. I checked for other CT's in the area, and noticed the guy with the AWP as I took a quick peak around the corner. I picked up the bomb, and went back down the stairs. In silence, I went to the doors to the bomb site and silently went in. One shot one kill on the AWP guy who was still looking at the hallway. The other heard the shots and turned around, attempted to hit me but before he knew it he was dead.
10-7. From there on, it went really weird. Every round was practically the same. My team dead from the start, me left alone or with one mate. Round after round I survived, and whiped out the whole CS team by playing smart and shooting accurate. My accuracy at the end of the session was 67%, while usually it's about 22%. My flashbangs were timed perfectly, and when I planted the bomb, I defended it perfectly each time. I remember one time when site B was secure, I planted the bomb and a few seconds later 4 CTs came at me. They threw flashes in the site, threw nades... they all ended up dead. At a certain point, my score was 32-10, and the CT that played the most 1337 of all in his team, said the following.
are you pro?
are you talking to me?
yeah!
He really, genuinly, thought I was pro, and he was a very good player himself, and at that point, my dream of years ago, came true, even if just for a couple of minutes. It really felt pretty good to be seen as a pro for once in my life. Now, don't think that I now am so confident with myself that I think I'm a pro at this point or that I want to go for it again. I know I'm pretty bad at the game and I never will be pro at any game because I just don't want that. I'm perfectly happy with my life and my job and gaming is fun to me now. I follow the pro-scene, but I don't care much about it or about my own skills. I just really want to enjoy myself while playing, I don't need to make money with it.
So, I just felt like sharing what happened, because it gave me a really good feeling. I remember how, in Fonzie wars, I was always the sitting duck, and had the lowest score. I really sucked, and it felt nice to not suck for once in my life.
If anyone feels like joining in for a bit of frag-fun, then tell me, cause I'd be glad to relive some old CS moments with all of you!
By the way, I miss you guys.

Twaren leuke tijden, maar that's all it is: het is helaas voorbij

15 Jan 2008 @ 18:48
Hehe ja vreemd he Octa

Kleine kans dus...
15 Jan 2008 @ 19:40
Sjah tis echt raar.
